About this solution
A pavement sign is the one that steps into a person's way: set on the pavement, in front of the entrance, on the street corner, it stops someone who was not looking up at the facade. For a café, a pharmacy, a salon or a shop in an arcade it is often what brings the customer in — the day's menu, an offer, 'open', an arrow to an entrance that cannot be seen. In the evening it folds and goes inside; in the morning it comes out again.
An A-board is two panels hinged at the top, opening into a triangle and standing on their own. It is made from aluminium profile with PVC or composite panels, on which the poster changes under a snap frame or a polycarbonate sheet, or with permanent vinyl graphics for what does not change. A stopper is a panel on a single leg, usually with a heavy base or one filled with water or sand, for windy pavements. Life-size cut-outs — a character or a product cut at full size — are made in composite or PVC on an equally heavy base.
A pavement sign has a hard life: wind, rain, knocks, put out and taken in twice a day. What separates it from a cheap one shows in a few months, not on the first day: hinges that do not work loose, a chain or bar that keeps the sides from splaying, a base that holds it up in a gust, exterior vinyl graphics that do not fade, and rounded corners, so it hurts nobody.
The size follows the pavement and the distance it has to be read from: a menu board reads from a metre, an arrow board from twenty. On a busy street the sign goes by the wall, not in the middle, so it is in nobody's way. Graphics go on both faces, so the sign reads from both directions of travel.
Frequently asked questions
All frequently asked questionsA-board or stopper?
An A-board for an ordinary pavement and for messages that change — the day's menu, the week's offer — because the poster changes on both faces in seconds. A stopper, with its heavy base, for windy or busy spots, because it does not tip over and takes less room. A life-size cut-out when you want people to stop and take a photo.
Does it stand up to wind and rain?
Yes, if it is made for it: aluminium profile that does not rust, PVC or composite panels, exterior vinyl graphics and a base or chain that holds it open in a gust. Paper posters are protected under a polycarbonate sheet; for lasting rain the graphics are made directly in vinyl. Nothing survives a storm — in the evening it folds and goes inside.
How is the poster changed?
On snap-frame boards the frame opens at the edges, the sheet is swapped and the frame snaps shut — no tools. On boards with a polycarbonate sheet, the sheet slides out of the profile and the poster goes behind it. Posters are printed by us to the frame's size, or by you to the format we give.
What should I send for a quote?
What it has to say — or that the posters will change — where it will stand, a photograph of the spot if possible, and roughly the size you have in mind. For a cut-out, send the image of the character or product at good resolution. From those follow the type of board, the size and whether the graphics are fixed or changeable.
