About this solution

Behind almost every large sign stands a metal structure nobody sees: the truss the rooftop letters stand on, the frame that holds a composite fascia flat on a crooked wall, the bracket of a projecting box, the post of a pylon, the skeleton of a stand. When it is made well the sign looks as if it stood by itself; when it is made badly it shows in every rusting joint and every sagging letter.

The structures are made in Pandor's own workshop from steel tube, profile and sheet or from aluminium, welded and then powder-coated — a finish that holds off rust for years, unlike paint brushed on at the site. Each structure gets a drawing and, where it carries weight or stands in wind, a calculation: the profile sections, their spacing, the anchors into the wall or roof. Large elements are made in sections that are transported and bolted together on site.

What separates a good structure from a poor one is not the thickness of the metal but how it was thought through: where water gets in and where it gets out, whether the welds are cleaned and painted before installation, whether the anchors suit the wall material, whether the structure can be put up with what fits on the roof or in a lift. A structure too heavy for its facade is as wrong as one too light for the wind there.

Metal structures are usually made as part of a larger job — a rooftop sign, a pylon, a canopy, the cladding of a facade — but also on their own, from a design received or a need described: a frame for a large banner, a support for a screen, a structure for an event installation. Tell us what it has to hold and where, and we draw it.

Frequently asked questions

All frequently asked questions
Do you make structures with no advertising on them?

Yes, if they are the kind we make anyway: frames, trusses, brackets, posts, supports, rooftop or freestanding structures. Most often they come with a sign, but a support for a screen, a frame for a banner or a structure for an event installation is made just as well on its own, from your drawing or ours.

Who does the drawings and calculations?

We do, for every structure: a working drawing with dimensions and joints and, where the structure carries weight or stands in wind, the sizing of profiles and anchors. If you have a design from an engineer or an architect, we work from it. The drawing is shown before production.

Steel or aluminium?

Steel for almost everything that carries weight or stands in wind — trusses, posts, brackets, rooftop structures — powder-coated or galvanised. Aluminium where weight matters more than strength: lightbox frames, interior structures, elements one person lifts. Stainless steel for what is seen and has to stay clean.

What should I send for a quote?

What the structure has to hold — a sign, a screen, a banner, with its size and rough weight — where it is installed, with a photograph of the place, and what you know about the wall or roof. If there is a design, send it. From those follow the kind of structure and the material; the rest is measured on site.
